I hope you know this will go down on your permanent record

January 25, 2009

A works for a software company and is currently working diligently on a training video (ok, doing voice over work) on a program for schools. The particular piece that she’s currently working on is to track student judicial actions.  In other words parents  – watch out, big brother is now going to wait for your kid to fuck up.

Seriously. I got a close up look at part (my favorite part was that she’d used our names for training purposes as students involved in incidents) of this and they track EVERYTHING on a system that can link to the student’s record, all students involved, time, dates, places, types of incidents including food fights! It’s crazy. I mean It used to be one thing to have a “file” on a “bad kid” but this is like, all kids. Every detention, every got to school late, every cut class – basically, every moment of your child’s educational career is going  to be on record.

Part of me is terrified that this kind of stuff exists  but seriously? How glad am I that it DIDN’T when I was in school.

Less than 10 years ago you could be at a concert or public event and people would wave lighters during the slow songs.

It’s kinda the same thing now – except um, people use their cell phones. And aren’t just providing light but they’re videotaping as well. I guess the right word would be recording because there’s no such thing as videotape any more, right?

In any event….their dance was beautiful. Welcome to the White House, Obama family.

Someday I will figure out how to embed video here. It’s not going to be today. But if you like (or have even just tolerated) the L word, and um, you’re dirty, you need to watch this video. Yes, there are problems but um, still, there are certainly some laughs.

Having it my way on a snow day

January 19, 2009

I’m actually really happy that the past two big storms have raced through Maine on Sundays. This is because at work we can 1)move the cars off of the front lot on Saturday pm and it’s dry, and 2)we clean and move them back Monday morning. Now, yes, this is a lot of physical work, and is annoying, but when there is this much snow you spend about 3 hours clearing and moving cars and by the time you are back at your desk it feels like the day has progressed VERY quickly. Yeah, I’m dead by 7 but whatevs, a few short hours is a few short hours.

Last night after having a few laughs at the dinner table with S, A, and some potential new friends A and I crashed out hard while S read into the wee hours. So naturally, A and I woke up early, chatted, and after S got up and coffee was made we decided (as in me and A were going to) go to the market for snow day provisions.

So out into the snow we went, and then we got home (well, I did, anyway, A needed to deal with snow and issues at her house) and I made us all breakfast. Sausage, egg and cheese on fresh biscuits. Mmmm. See, look:

Seriously Delicious.

The day was spent playing in snow (the snow pants I bought two sizes too small FIT today,)  cleaning our cars, watching movies, eating bad food choices, and we had a nice family dinner of one of A’s favorites, chicken parm, which she was somewhat amazed that you could actually make at home (yeah, she had a similar amazement when she found out you could make pie at home too. I’m working on her and even got her a cookbook for Christmas.)

Today was freaking awesome. I wish every day was a snow day!

and she’ll know me by the sound of my hoping

So…as my hosting site charged me for another years rent I guess this means I’m not dead yet. Or as Lestat would say “There’s still life in the old lady yet!”

Yes, I’m on a weird Vampire thing. Did I mention the marathon “Twilight” novel reading sessions, or actually having seen it 3x in the theater? I’m currently reading the “Dead until Dark” series that “True Blood” is based on. And um, yeah, watched a few episodes of that too.

So, for better or worse, I guess I’m back. I promise that I will write more (which means I really have to now because I really try hard to not make promises I can’t keep) and that I will be more honest about me and what’s going on. Heck, I’m even toying with posting a photograph. I know, shocker.

So, if anyone’s still around and reading…thanks.
