can you explain this?

July 27, 2008

It’s no secret that where I live is kind of a vacation hotspot for the rest of the world. And by rest of the world I mean people from the rest of New England and some mid-Atlantic states and French Canadians. Mostly French Canadians though.  Anyway, last night we ventured south to one of the more popular resort towns, actually a town that has a really big reputation for being a queer destination. And while there were many gay people to be found there were also lots of other tourists, mostly French Canadians.

As seaside towns often have, this particular town was not devoid of its tacky beach type stuff stores. We went into one store that had beach clothes, surf shoes,  many skim and boogie boards, most with “typical” California-esque inspired designs. And this:

Uhm….I don’t get it. Any French Canadians out there who get this? I can only assume that there is a target audience or….? I really don’t know.  Maybe it isn’t F/C at all. Maybe it’s just the gayest boogie board design ever? If so, I really don’t want to take credit for it. At all.

Your thoughts?

  1. kid screams “mama I like horsey, I want horsey”
kid is 3 or 4 and way to young for skim board but parent pays anyways

  2. Oh I think if it were the gayest boogie board design ever it would be the mama horse and the baby horse floating on a cloud under a rainbow. I think bleu is right though this is aimed at the kiddies.

  3. I agree… it’s for the little girls… they all have a thing for horses….

Hope you enjoyed your time in the resort town!

  4. I think it’s amazing. I would boogie on that board.

  5. Damned if I know. Seems right up there quality-wise with the beach towels featuring Dale Earnhart, Jr. or the Budweiser label. This may get me smacked, but I’m going to say it. I don’t think this is a Franco thing. I think you’ve got too many teeth to appreciate it for the high-class piece of consumer art that it is.

  6. I completely agree with bleu. Sister, have we met? Envision you, aged 12 and me age 6. Scene: Some tacky surf shop on Myrtle Beach. Me: screaming my head off because “I want the horsey!! And big sister and brother got one, I want one too!!”

    End scene.

  7. Those horses make me want to take up surfing. Oh, the many nights I have dreamt of riding the waves on a a boogie board featuring a mother horse and her foal…

  8. I definitely think I have a 12 yr old girl who would jump up and down for that. It must be a horse lover thing.
I, on the other hand, wouldn’t be caught dead with it. 😉

  9. My best friend would have killed for that as a kid. Jenny, are you reading this? I found your boogie board!

  10. Good God.
