my civic duties

February 10, 2008

Today is caucus day here in Maine. Until this morning I didn’t know if we were going to be a split household, with me going one way, and S going the other. We share one car, so that would make for some awkward bumperstickering. I don’t know that I’ve ever seen a car supporting both nominee candidates. But it would have been funny. S revealed this morning who she would be caucusing for, and I’m happy to say that it’s the same person. Yay. I also admit so some joy that for the first time ever in my voting career I can cast my vote for not one, but TWO minorities, which I think is amazing.

The only thing I don’t like about caucusing is the time thing. I wish it didn’t take 4 hours. Yes, 4 hours. I sometimes miss the ease of just…pulling a lever. But it is the right thing to do, and I truly believe that our candidate will win the state, but…..one can never be so sure so a caucusing we will go.

As far as other civic duties – maintaining this blog has taken a backseat as of late and I need to do some changing, and I need your help to do it. Due to the ease at which bloglines keeps all of you organized and updated, and the ease at which I can just drop a new blog into my feed, I’ve sort of neglected that whole list of blog folks to the right. Take a peek. Is your blog there? Do you want it to be? Seriously, there’s no popularity contest here in cheeseland.  Leave me a comment if you’d like to be added to the blogroll, and I will do so. Similarly, if you’d like to be taken off, or your link is wrong, let me know that as well.

I seriously appreciate all the comments that I get – and sometimes I don’t know who has left them – I’d like to change that. I didn’t do the whole de-lurk day thing because, well, I’m sort of anti-pressure that way, but I’m happy to send traffic your way should you wish it to come, so..you know the deal:)

Happy Caucus day, Maine!

  1. I think it would be awesome to have a car with two stickers!! Co and I are for the same candidate though.

We’d like to stay on the blogroll, pretty please…

  2. We’d love to hear your thoughts and about your experience over at BlogHer.com!

  3. Women aren’t a minority. It’s easy to forget, given their underrepresentation, but a slight majority of US citizens are female.

  4. I’m there, but you have my old url.

  5. You can add us.

  6. The year that Perot ran… we ‘lifted’ lawn signs for Perot, Bush AND Clinton and put them ALL in front of our house. Just cuz we thought it was funny. Ferris was 5 at the time, he thought it was a hoot. Nothing like getting your kid involved in the democartic process by stealing and lying 🙂

  7. kudos for doing your 4 hour duty. the dual bumper sticker would be a hoot.

and women are absolutely a minority when it comes to equality in most arenas of our society, including politics. glad to have someone besides an old white man to vote for too.

it’d be lovely to be on your blogroll.

  8. pleading civic ignorance here…why does it take 4 hours to vote in a caucus as opposed to a primary?

  9. Hi-I’d love to be on your blog roll.
    Happy Caucus Day!

  10. I think we will split in my family. Primaries are still a few weeks away in TX. I’ve set up a little meme on my blog and wanted to invite you to play, if you feel like it. Robin

  11. tomorrow i’ll be going to do my civic duty at the Potomac Primary. it is phenomenal to think there will be a woman on the presidental ballots in the fall. i thought i would be a lot older before i ever saw that.

would love to be on your blogroll 🙂
i love your blog – tho i dont always comment. you stole my heart when you posted the quote from The Velveteen Rabbit about “becoming real”…

    love,
    gypsy

  13. Keep me on the roll, oh, and, yeah, it’s great to have choices, but who did you vote for?

    xo

  15. I’d love to be on your list.

  16. Me! Me! How about me? I want to be popular! Add me! Oh…wait – you said it’s *not* a popularity contest? Crap.

I went to vote, not caucus, yesterday and fell on my ass down the back steps to the gym where the polls are. Oops. Civic duty hurts sometimes.
